Abstract
Many of the novel insights into humoral and cellular immunology in basic research settings have been facilitated by sophisticated, newly emerged technologies for immune monitoring. With the growing importance of cell-based methods in the clinical laboratory and in translational medicine studies, assay procedure includes an in-depth discussion of quality monitoring for cell-based assays. Epigenetic assays allow cell-type-specific leukocyte counting from small amounts of blood and tissue samples. Target regions for the various real-time polymerase chain reaction assays were designed in silico, synthesized. One of the most innovative developments in cytometry mass cytometry combines mass spectrometry and flow cytometry by using transition metal isotope-tagged, rather than fluorescent, antibodies. Cell-mediated immunity is a critical factor during most immunologic responses in settings as diverse as infectious diseases, cancer, and autoimmunity. Development of imaging flow cytometers has been driven in part by the desire to integrate more functional parameters into classic immunophenotyping analysis.
