Abstract
The increased popularity of existentialism in France after World War II gave rise to the development in England of the philosophy of resistentialism. The creation of a British wag of the Stephen Potter school, resistentialism is a systematic treatment of the innate cussedness of things. The elusive collar button, the bloodthirsty razor blade, the banana peel lying in wait—these are examined and made to give evidence that the (so-called) inanimate world stands always ready to humiliate, confuse, and discomfit the unwary human being.
