Abstract
Calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) is the most potent vasodilator discovered to date and possesses multiple biological functions. As the principal neurotransmitter of sensory nerves, CGRP is mainly synthesized in dorsal root ganglion. Besides nerve cells, some non-nerve cells (such as lymphocytes and endothelial cells) can synthesize CGRP, too. The synthesis and release of CGRP are regulated by multiple factors. In addition to transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1), adrenoceptor, angiotensin receptor, nerve growth factor receptor and nitric oxide are also involved in regulating the synthesis and release of CGRP.
