Abstract
* This chapter is a by-product of research supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation (SOC73-05504 A02) and a fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health (3-5690-43-3453). Participants in the Corporate Actor Project at the National Opinion Research Center were helpful in pointing out confusing aspects of an early draft of the chapter, portions of which were presented in the network analysis session of the 1975 annual meetings of the American Sociological Association. 224
