Abstract
The last two decades brought dramatic changes to the market place of tourism destinations in the Pacific Rim. Japanese tourist arrivals multiplied, followed by similar developments in arrivals from other Asian countries. This paper focuses on the development of outbound tourism from the four Asian “Tigers” Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. It traces the emergence of these markets and the spatial patterns of development by placing it into the outbound destination life cycle concept.
