Abstract

This paper axiomatizes a nontransitive generalization of additively separable utility for preference on multiattribute outcomes. The axiomatization requires at least three factors or attributes, retains the essential independence aspect of additive conjoint measurement, and makes no assumption about transitive preferences. The real valued functions on the factors in the numerical representation are continuous and unique up to similar proportionality transformations. Comparisons are made to related work by Karl Vind.
