Abstract

A system of classifying the diffusion patterns of major new products is explained. Nine distinct classes are proposed. Using diffusion data, 26 new products are each placed in their appropriate class. The goodness of fit is seen to be high and examples of most classes are found. The full flexibility of the proposed approach does seem to be necessary. Possible explanations of class membership are proposed.
