Abstract
This article focuses on the recruitment process that was undertaken in an attempt to secure African American participants for a behavioral research study that took place in 1998. This research study at Wayne State University (Detroit) was funded by the National Institute on Aging/National Institutes of Health (NIA/NIH). The research was supported by Grant No. AG09203 to Gisela Labouvie-Vief; an ongoing longitudinal/cross-sequential study continues, examining changes in thought, feelings, and emotions throughout the life span. Information compiled from the recruitment process will be useful for future recruitment efforts targeting African Americans and other ethnic groups for involvement in research studies.
