The Hidden Cost of Difference: Women with Learning Disabilities.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss findings from a qualitative, participatory research project focusing on the experiences of adult women living with a learning disability. This paper briefly summarizes available research on the status of women with learning disabilities and then explores some of the more hidden costs associated with learning disabilities as reported by adult women. Specifically, the paper explores a cyclic relationship discussed by the participants involving perfectionism, panic or anxiety, and exhaustion.
