Abstract
A computerized, problem-oriented medical record system, designed for ambulatory practice, is operating effectively at the U.S. Naval Air Station Dispensary, Brunswick, Maine. The system uses a commercial computer service and interpretive language technology to provide maximal narrative representation of medical data. Minimal training of office personnel is required. Physicians willingly use the computer terminals in their offices. The major impact has been the establishment of smooth, efficient data flow patterns. Accountability throughout the dispensary's medical care delivery system has been attained. Present evidence indicates that system cost is comparable to the standard paper record system.
