Abstract
Environmental policies that fail to be implemented also fail to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as fulfil other goals related to environmental protection. Consequently, a vast body of research has emerged that assesses how environmental policies are implemented, that is, how they are put into practice. In this chapter, the authors give an overview of the state of research on environmental policy implementation by concentrating on (i) policy design, (ii) implementation structure, (iii) agency decision-making, (iv) target group behaviour, and (v) policy outcomes.
