Abstract

This study examines the relationship between energy consumption and several social indicator variables for 24 advanced market societies for the period 1950 to 1975. Its purpose is to assess the implications of energy policy arguments that call for maintaining high levels of energy comsumption in the advanced industrial societies. The results do not support the view that a moderate decline in energy consumption will seriously affect Quality of Life.
