Abstract
Five hypotheses concerning elderly morale were examined: (I) morale is more highly correlated with quality of sib- ling relationships than frequency of contact; (2) sibling relationships are more important for the single than married elderly; (3) siblings provide more emotional support, and children provide more practi- cal support; (4) reciprocity is greater in relationships with peers than with children; (5) sister-sister relationships will be more intimate than other sibling relationships. Hypotheses 1 and 2 were partially supported; 3 and 4 were rejected; and 5 confirmed.
