Abstract
The present investigation examined the role of applicants′ positive inferences about organizational characteristics in the relationship between recruiter friendliness and applicant attraction to the job. Results of a laboratory investigation indicated that subjects watching a videotape of a "friendly" recruiter made significantly more positive inferences regarding organizational characteristics that were not explicitly provided than subjects watching an "unfriendly" recruiter. Furthermore, these inferences partially mediated the effect of recruiter friendliness on subjects′ attraction to the job.
