Abstract

The concept of information technology is the core of MIS research, yet little effort has been expended to provide a definition that allows us to compare and contrast systems and generalize results across studies, and that is valid from an organizational and behavioral as well as an information theoretic point of view. In this paper we attempt to derive such a definition starting from the construct of bounded rationality, and we explore the significance of this effort for the MIS discipline.
