Abstract

This article examines the influence of citation impact on scholarship. Citation analysis allows authors to determine how often their work has been cited by others. This creates a quantitative hierarchy of influence and relevance, potentially boosting the author's reputation. However, the author suggests the pressure for prestige may distort the natural processes of research and publication. He analyzes citation impact through the perspective of East Asian management research and finds many researches are following Western models instead of offering innovative new theories.
