Abstract

Effective diagnosis and treatment planning requires a flexible approach to child assessment that includes data from multiple sources, as well as parental involvement. This chapter documents the conduct and components of the psychological assessment of children and adolescents. Psychological assessment can delineate cognitive development functions, personality structure, patterns of social interaction, and neuropsychological status. These data can inform diagnosis, treatment planning, and educational intervention.
