Abstract
Not many years ago a prominent contemporary reader of Wundt posed the provocative question: "Why study Wundtian psychology?" (Blumenthal, 1998). For most non-readers of Wundt this is a rhetorical question: There are no good reasons for studying Wundtian psychology now. Anything Wundt wrote or did has long been totally superseded by the onward march of psychological science, which, as everyone knows, owes him respect for just one thing, the founding of the first psychological laboratory. Even that is not so certain—perhaps it wasn't even the first.
