Abstract

Expanded opportunities to participate in gaming activities and the interest and acceptance of gaming as a recreational activity has altered traditional demographic gamer profiles. Casual and occasional gamers have been attracted to these expanded gaming opportunities, and they provide frequent repeat business as well as serving as opinion leaders in the diffusion and acceptance of this recreational activity. As the face of the American population changes and the acceptance of lotteries increases, traditional demographic gamer profiles should be reconsidered. The expanded availability of gaming opportunities may well move the maturing gaming industry into a new phase of potentially rapid growth.
