Abstract

The effects of a delayed bedtime on school children were examined. Among 204 primary school children, 34 children (17%) went to bed after 23.00 hours. In comparison with those who went to bed before 23.00 hours, the sleep time of the former group was more than 1 h shorter, their mood after awakening was worse, and they dozed off more frequently during the daytime. These children more frequently attended cram school and studied at home 1 h later each night. It would be appropriate to reconsider their life style and not to delay the development of good life habits.
