Abstract
Some advances in organic EL materials for obtaining a blue-emitting fluorescent layer and stable carrier transport layers are mentioned. Emphasis is laid on the rational selection of organic materials for multilayer EL devices. Ionization potentials and electron affinities in organic thin films are extremely important for accomplishing effective confinements of carriers and excitons within the emission layer and for rational design of multilayer EL devices with heterojunction structures. Some microcavity effects, enhancement of the spontaneous emission and interference of the emitted light are discussed based on the dimension of the multilayer device.
