Abstract
Standardized behavior questionnaires were completed on a representative sample of 285 pairs of twins (102 monozygotic, 111 same sex dizygotic, and 72 different sex dizygotic). It was found that rates of behavioral deviance were linked to maternal mental ill health and quality of parental marriage. Concordance rates for deviance were distinctly higher in monozygotic than in dizygotic twins. Despite demonstrable confounding effects in environmental similarities and differences, it is concluded that, especially in boys, genetic factors are of definite etiological importance in the development of behavioral deviance.
