Abstract
Using a ${}^{14}{\mathrm{C}}^{16}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ laser the ${2s}_{1/2}{\ensuremath{-}2p}_{3/2}$ (fine structure--Lamb shift) transition has been induced in ${}^{14}{\mathrm{N}}^{6+}$ ions trapped in an electron beam ion trap. The transition has been measured to be $835.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.5{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1},$ in agreement with QED theory.
