Abstract
This article describes a survey conducted in the Virgin Islands to gain a better understanding of the local residents' perceptions and feelings toward tourists and tourism. Residents were interviewed to obtain their responses to a 56-item ques tionnaire, which provided eight statements in the following general categories: (I) financial, (2) moral, (3) religious, (4) social, (5) physical, (6) human, and (7) cul tural.
