Abstract
The incidence of gallstone disease among the parents of a consecutive series of young patients was compared with that in the parents of two sex- and agematched control groups. One control sample was drawn from the general population and the other one consisted of patients in whom cholecystography had shown gallstones to be absent. The parents of young gallstone patients were significantly more often victims of that disease than the parents of the controls. No difference was found between the two control groups.
