Abstract

The authors present an introduction to transaction processing, describe a typical workload, and briefly examine the system with respect to the application, database, and operating system activities. They then briefly compare and contrast selected 'architectural results' (instruction set usage) and 'implementation results' (cache and TLB performance) from three diverse applications: transaction processing, general-purpose, and technical/scientific. Finally, they summarize current system performance data for selected HP systems.>
