Effects of Music upon Emotional Content of Tat Stories

Abstract

Summary Thirty-one Ss in Experiment 1 indicated by their responses on a semantic differential type questionnaire that four different musical selections aroused different emotions. The musical selections that produced the greatest contrast in emotional reports were used in Experiment 2 in which 60 stories written about an ambiguous picture were judged to have significantly different emotional content depending on whether the authors wrote while tension-producing music, calming music, or no music was played.
