Abstract
The clinician whose patient evidences an unexplained exacerbation of dental caries or periodontal disease should ask the patient what medication he has been taking. By scanning the drugs listed alphabetically in Table II, the practitioner can evaluate the xerostomic potential of the medications. A consultation with the patient's physician to modify the etiologic factors may prevent severe dental destruction.
