Abstract
Diversity in nursing and nursing education is creating a need to examine traditional models for student evaluation. Since the social efficiency movement of the early 1900s, principles of systematization and linear models have directed the development of nursing education, and rationalistic evaluation has dominated. The endurance of Tyler's behavioral model is understandable in our modern climate, which emphasizes accountability. However, it is time to expand our patterns of thinking. This expansion in thought may be accomplished through the addition of primary organizers drawn from models of responsive evaluation.
