Abstract

Abstract What is science? Is science objective? Can science explain everything? Philosophy of Science: A Very Short Introduction explores the main themes and theories of contemporary philosophy of science. Beginning with a concise history of science, it examines the nature of scientific reasoning, scientific explanation, and the theory/evidence relation. Looking at scientific revolutions and scientific change, it asks whether there is a discernible pattern to the way scientific ideas develop over time and discusses realist versus anti-realist attitudes towards science. It concludes by considering the role of science in society, and ethical questions surrounding modern science.
