TL;DR

The Department of Health’s Modernising Nursing Careers (MNC) is a UKwide policy document that establishes principles for the future direction of nursing.

Abstract

Modernising Nursing Careers (Department of Health, 2006) is a welcome, strategic look at the current state of nursing across the four countries of the UK. It also sets the direction for changes to nursing in its most fundamental arenas—education, careers, leadership, image—making this one of the most significant documents to emerge about the future of nursing since Making a Difference, the strategy for nursing, midwifery and health visiting, was published 7 years ago (Department of Health, 1999).
