Abstract
This paper presents an intelligent lighting system using a wireless mesh network. It reports the experience with practical issues related to the goals of the system, and the choice of the control and monitor type of network for achieving these goals in the specific site. The site is in an urban residential area and includes 120 luminaries, divided in 2 networks operating one next to the other, and expected to expand. The wireless mesh network model selected is based on synchronized flooding. At the time of writing this paper, it has been operating continuously for over one year and fulfilling the goals and the expectations of its designers. This study discusses the suitability of this particular model in such intelligent lighting application, including the use of several networks operating in the same geographical area, and the contribution of the wireless network in achieving the goals of the project.
