A Comparison of Supervisor's Rating While Observing a Language Remediation Session

Abstract

One hundred supervisors viewed a five-minute videotaped segment of a language remediation session and completed two critiquing tasks, one involving narrative statements and one involving a guided rating scale. Results yielded 500 narrative critiques which were sorted according to the Criteria Most Frequently Used in Evaluating Student Clinicians (Schuben, 1978) and the Content and Sequence Analysis of the Supervisory Session (Culatta and Seltzer, 1977). Statistical analysis of the guided ratings revealed lack of agreement among the supervisors. Statistical analysis of the suoervisors' ratings according to their experience and job descriptions revealed a significantly higher number of negative statements written by the supervisors with 5 to 9.99 years experience.
