Comparative Management: A Regional View

Abstract

When one reviews existing literature on comparative or cross-cultural management, all too often the focus is on structure, particularly the legal and political-economic factors. While this information is used as background, the primary focus of the eight chapters is the cultural implications that are so important in understanding the how and why of management practices in different parts of the world. Furthermore, emphasis is given to the impact of technology transfer, attitudes toward change, and human resource development. Not only do these factors bear heavily on management style, but they help to explain the rationale for different approaches to management in a global and comparative context.
