Abstract

The author distinguishes resilience from concepts of positive psychology and competence by showing that there is heterogeneity in how humans respond to environmental hazards, whether those are physical or psychological. His goal is to explore these different responses in order to discover the causal processes that relate to resilience. His chapter shows the wisdom that comes with more than four decades of research in this area.
