Abstract
The logistic growth function frequently arises in economic and biological problems, but is not easy to fit to observed data. Three methods of fitting it are described and compared with direct least‐squares. It is found that the simpler methods are highly unsatisfactory in a number of respects when applied to six illustrative time series. Some features of an electronic computer programme evolved for the direct least‐squares method are described.
