Abstract
The pattern of test utilization in the hematology laboratory of a large teaching hospital for the years 1967 to 1971 is reviewed. The average annual increase in workload was 12.4%. This workload increase is related to the increases in laboratory staff and patient load. The work units for special tests have increased at a greater rate (274%) than the overall workload (49.6%). Factors in the pattern of test utilization are discussed.
