Abstract

The 1982 syllabus of training for psychiatric nursing students encouraged nurse tutors to examine their educational practice. This seems to have caused some polarisation between the humanistically oriented tutors and behaviourally oriented tutors. This article examines some of the assumptions made by both groups and calls for clarification and then synthesis of some of the concepts involved.
