Abstract
The inclusion bodies of two nuclear polyhedrosis viruses have been studied electron microscopically. The presence of a structurally distinct layer has been confirmed at the surface of the polyhedral inclusion body. The structure is visible in section as an electron-dense layer and can also be observed when separated from suspensions of alkali-treated polyhedra using negative staining techniques. A model is proposed for the subunits of the inclusion body protein lattice which explains the arrangement seen both in section and in aggregates of protein from alkali-treated polyhedra.
