TL;DR

Though reports in the literature of severe anaphylactic reactions to narcotics are rare, they occur, and it may be that such reactions are true IgE-mediated reactions, rather than direct histamine release as has been previously believed.

Abstract

Cross-sensitivity between individual opioid derivative members of the fentanyl group od drugs appears likely.
