Abstract
Directly perceived space can be divided into two major parts, personal space and extrapersonal space. Personal space contains the space of the self (ego space), which is experienced by the "inner senses" within the limits of body space. Ego space, however, is not identical with body space. One can perceive parts of one's own body as objects of the extra-personal space, as one may analyze the shape and structure of the left index finger in a manner similar to any other object. The subjective localization of the ego remains within the limits of body space in an awake and attentive subject, but it is, within these limits, vague and ill-defined (Kant, 1796).
