Some of the most obvious features of the world and our experience are the processes of dissipation and aging. Things break down, wear out, become less efficient and we generally have the sense that, unless something is done to rejuvenate them, systems will inevitably decay to the point where they will lose the very attributes that gave them identity as “systems.”
