Abstract
The concept that hemispheric functional differentiation in man is the result of evolution of asymmetry in the aortic arch was investigated. After intravenous injection of I131 in 85 young normal subjects, gamma irradiation curves from the nondominant hemisphere for speech and dexterity were usually higher than those from the dominant hemisphere. This dynamic vascular asymmetry might explain the earlier behavioral and electrophysiological development of the nondominant hemisphere.
