Abstract
SUMMARY When serial dilutions of a suspension of virus particles are plated onto susceptible cell sheets, plaques of altered cells develop. Plaque formation is initiated by the attachment of a specific number of virus particles to a single cell (the hit number, h). In this paper, several estimators of h are derived based on the numbers of plaques counted on the series of cell sheets.
