Abstract
This is a review of scientific studies regarding the consequences of 'automobility.' The scientific literature from different disciplines dealing with past, present, and future roles of the automobile were reviewed, and the results were classified by 4 themes: the use and significance of the automobile, human responses to the environmental impact of the automobile, the power structure of a motorized society, and possible future roles of the automobile.
