An analysis of responsiveness between nations

Abstract

Abstract : In their analysis of conditions which lead to integration of nations into larger political communities, Karl Deutsch, et al0 (3 ) lay great stress on concept responsiveness. As they define it, responsiveness is the ability (of one political unit) to give messages from other political units adequate weight in making of their own decisions, to perceive needs of populations and elites of these other units, and to respond to them quickly and adequately in terms of political or economic action (p.4O). According to these authors, before political units will ally or amalgamate, each must have shown considerable responsiveness to other. Concomitantly, failure of responsiveness. The data reported in this manuscript were gathered while author was a Public Health Service Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Program of Graduate Training and Research in International Relations at Northwestern University.
