Research Article| September 01 2000 Globalization of the Local/Localization of the Global: Mapping Transnational Women's Movements Amrita Basu Amrita Basu amrita basu, a member of the Meridians Editorial Board, teaches political science and women's and gender studies at Amherst College. She writes about women's activism, religious nationalism, and women's movements, primarily with reference to India. She is the author of Two Faces of Protest: Contrasting Modes of Women's Activism in India, editor of The Challenge of Local Feminisms: Women's Movements in Global Perspective, and co-editor of Appropriating Gender: Women's Activism and Politicized Religion in South Asia.
