The following account is based on a study concerning congenital abnormalities which included an attempt to find out from mothers how, when, and from whom they first learned about their babies' defects, and to get their opinions.

Abstract

Intestinal obstructions42 6 1 Esomphalostruction .. .. 3 18-8 Hirschsprung's disease .. .. 10 1-4Names and addresses were obtained from the Liverpool Congenital Abnormalities Register (Smithells, 1962).Illegiti- mate babies were excluded from this study.Most of the babies wee born during the four-year period 1960-3.The mothers were interviewed during 1966 and 1967.
