Abstract
Britain's archives are a rich resource and a part of our heritage of which the nation can be justly proud. This book explores and illustrates their profusion and diversity and in particular the partnerships between owners, custodians and users which have opened up to public study an ever expanding wealth of historical records. The book will interest all who use archives, whether professionally or as a leisure pursuit, and indeed all who have wondered why we have record offices and what happens in a repository.
