Abstract
Passive aggressive behavior is a disruptive force in the educational process. Arising out of distortions in the parent-child relationship, it manifests itself as a continual struggle against authority figures. Pupils or teachers can manifest this behavior syndrome, with its pouting sullenness, stubborn defiance, and hostile withdrawal. Comment is made on both the passive aggressive child and the passive aggressive teacher, and guidelines for prevention are noted and discussed.
